Cow-kid and Private Ames

Description

Illustration from Stephen King's Under the dome.

Ollie Dinsmore is living in Hell, and young Private Clint Ames can only watch from outside the Dome.

Ollie should be crying by that point (after telling Private Ames his latest adventures). Private Ames should have dropped his hammer back beside the sign he had just put up, but for this illustration's sake, I think it looks better where I placed it.

I love Private Ames and Ollie. Ollie's will to live is amazing, and Clint Ames's heart is huge, even if he is kind of a lazy army guy.

I saw Clint Ames as Marvel Comics' Sam Guthrie (Cannonball), because of his age and his accent. That is why I drew him looking similar to him. It was after I had already inked him that I tried to learn where that surname is from, so I searched "south carolina" and "ames". I got results related to the "African Methodist Episcopal Church" (and a tragic attack by some crazy racist). I also saw the news of a young Hero (a black kid) who gave his life to save his little sister from being run over by a car. By then, I wanted to make PFC Ames a black kid as a small honor to this Hero, but the inks were done. But at least I wil share his story so he serves as inspiration to others, and perhaps to get more people to say a prayer for him, and also for the victims of the church shooting.

I still do not know where the "Ames" surname comes from, but these stories seemed more important.

Under The Dome, Ollie Dinsmore and Clint Ames are trademarked, copyrighted and/ or registered by Stephen King.
